Day 2: Chefchaouen – Fes via Volubilis Meknes

After a delicious breakfast at your riad in Chefchaouen, we begin our scenic drive south through the Rif Mountains, heading towards the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. As we arrive, you’ll step back in time to explore the remarkable remnants of this once-thriving Roman city. Walk among ancient olive presses, luxurious mansions, intricate mosaics, and towering Corinthian columns, giving you a glimpse of Roman life and the subsequent medieval Berber town that followed.

Next, we continue our journey along the Zerhoun Hills to visit Moulay Idriss, one of Morocco's holiest Islamic towns. Here, thousands of pilgrims visit each year during the moussem to pray at the tomb of Moulay Idriss, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. In this spiritual town, you’ll have the chance to explore the narrow alleyways and admire the Zaouia – the green-tiled pyramid-shaped mausoleum of Moulay Idriss, surrounded by two conical quarters.

After a tranquil visit to Moulay Idriss, we head to Fes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities, known for its rich history and stunning architecture. The day ends with a relaxing evening at your riad in Fes, where you can unwind and prepare for an exciting exploration of this captivating city the following day.

This day of your Morocco tour offers a perfect mix of ancient Roman history, spiritual Moroccan traditions, and the charm of Fes, making it an unforgettable part of your journey.

Day 3: Fes sightseeing

Fes (Fez) is Morocco’s oldest Imperial city and its “old town” is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Medina (old town) is called Fes el-Bali and behind its high walls is a magical, medieval city just teeming with life in every one of its narrow streets. Fes is the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco and you’ll certainly experience its vibrancy. The new part of Fes, called the new city, was built by the French and is totally different from the medina. The wide boulevards are lined with modern shops and full of traffic activity. There’s not much to see, but if you prefer larger Westernized hotels, this is where you’d stay. After breakfast at 9:00, we’ll begin to explore the oldest city in Morocco, wandering through its alleys and small streets. Your first stop is the Royal Palace gate, which was once the Jewish headquarters, and the first Mellah ever built in Morocco (built during the 16th century). Your tour will include the significant cultural and historical sites, including the famous Al Qaraouine University (the oldest in the region), the tanneries, the Attarine Museum, and Mulay Idriss Mausoleum. After lunch, you will visit the tiles cooperative before enjoying a wonderful panoramic view over the entire Medina of Fes.

Day 4: Exploring Fes

On Day 4 of your 7-Day Morocco Tour from Tangier to Marrakech, we’ll pick you up from your riad or hotel in Fes and embark on an unforgettable journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop will be Ifrane, often referred to as "Little Switzerland" for its alpine-like scenery, before continuing to Azrou. Along the way, we’ll pause at the famous cedar forests to spot the Barbary Apes in their natural habitat, a truly unique experience.

As we continue our drive, we’ll cross the scenic Tizi Ntalghamt Pass before reaching Midelt, and then travel along the stunning Ziz Gorges. Carved through volcanic rock, these gorges offer breathtaking views of the Middle Atlas Plateau. The landscape slowly transitions, offering glimpses of the desert as we approach Errachidia.

After lunch, we’ll continue our journey through the Ziz Valley, passing through Erfoud and Rissani, before finally reaching the desert town of Merzouga. Here, we’ll enjoy a refreshing glass of traditional mint tea before setting off on a thrilling camel ride into the heart of the Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes, the highest dunes in North Africa.

The camel trek lasts around 1.5 hours, and upon arrival at our Berber camp in the desert, you’ll settle into comfortable, well-equipped Berber tents complete with mattresses, blankets, and cushions. After a delicious traditional dinner, we’ll gather around the campfire, enjoy the rhythms of Berber drums, and gaze up at the stunning night sky filled with stars—a truly magical desert experience.

Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

On Day 5 of your 7-Day Morocco Tour from Tangier to Marrakech, we’ll start the day early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After soaking in the stunning desert views, we’ll embark on a camel ride back to the hotel. Upon returning, you’ll have time to freshen up and enjoy a delicious breakfast before we continue our journey.

Next, we’ll drive towards Tinghir and the dramatic Todra Gorges, known for their towering cliffs and scenic beauty. These impressive canyons offer great opportunities for photography and exploration. After visiting the gorges, we’ll make our way to the Dades Valley, a stunning region famous for its lush greenery and kasbahs nestled in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

Known as the "Route of a Thousand Kasbahs," this scenic drive offers plenty of opportunities for photography, with countless traditional kasbahs dotting the landscape.

We’ll stop to visit the Roses Valley and the charming Skoura village, known for its palm groves and historic kasbahs, before heading to Ouarzazate, often called "the Hollywood of Africa" due to its famous film studios and breathtaking desert backdrop. Here, we’ll enjoy lunch at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest kasbah in Morocco. This iconic fortress village is a must-see, with its ancient mudbrick buildings and stunning views.

After touring Ait Ben Haddou, we’ll continue our journey through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, which rises to an altitude of 2,260 meters (7,400 feet) and offers panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains.
